Review Reviewed by Karen Pirnot for Readers' Favorite Saddle up, get your feet in the stirrups and be prepared to ride out this fun and gritty Western! Author Juliette Douglas gives readers the third in her Freckled Venom series and Skeletons is the best of them all. Marshall Rawley Lovett of White River Wyoming has taken on a spitfire named Lacy and ...has gone and married the woman who couldn't be tamed. They have a young daughter named Hanah who tries to outdo her mother in defiance and courage. When Hanah and her classmates at the local school are all kidnapped, the Marshall and Lacy head out to get the children back and to end the threat of Big Joe Kannon and his gang. The gang's plan is to take the children to Mexico and sell them, but Rawley and Lacy have other plans for the gang. Unbeknownst to them, the children also have a plan to foil their kidnappers. I love the characters in this series and Skeletons gives the reader even more spit and vinegar than its predecessors. The stamina of the adults is admirable, but the spunkiness of the children is downright admirable. I loved the way author Douglas had a parallel story going between the adults and the children. It was almost two stories in one and either by itself was charming and exciting. The Lovetts' two adopted children, Cotton and Bill, come through like troopers while their parents, Rawley and Lacy, hide a secret from everyone while still doing their part for the people of White River. The couple had skeletons to bury, and they do it in this book. The 1888 setting is so accurately portrayed that you'll feel you're right there in the story. Even if you've not read the first two books in the series, this one will keep you reading.

By Gloria Antypowich I totally LOVED this book. Lacey and Rawley Lovett secured a place in my heart in the first book (Copperhead), and I continued to love them through the second (Copperhead Strikes). Skelletons leaps forward in time. Ten years of love and sharing their family has deepened the relationship between the feisty former bounty hunter and her husband. But the fire is still there when she has to defend those that she loves. And Hannah is a replica of her mother!! OMG—what a handful she is. I loved her and I just had to smile at the way Rawley handled his two fiery redheaded females. And it was wonderful to see Bill and Cotton as an integral part of the family.Douglas is a master story teller. As I read I felt like I had had been transported back in time to White River, Wyoming in 1888. I felt Ezra Shemwell’s anticipation while he waited for his new bride to arrive. And I felt his heart shrivel when Beth Hudson revealed her true self. And I was grateful for her son, Ben. I had to chuckle many times about the liaison that he and Hannah formed and the antics they got up to.When Joe Kannon and his terrible gang came back to town I knew there was going to be trouble. But who could have guessed that he would kidnap all the school kids! Little could the bad guys have imagined the trouble they had landed themselves in when they ended up with Hannah and Cotton Lovett in that group of group of kids. As the book progressed I worried for everyone, Lacy and Rawley, the other parents in the town, the children as they were transported by their captors—but I chuckled at how Hannah and Cotton and Ben instigated to disrupt Joe Kannon’s plans. And once again, even when Rawley tried to protect Lacey by shutting her out of the chase, she proved that she still was feisty and had the temper and determination to carry her through!

Ezra's store and the town have rebuilt itself after the fire. Rawley and Lacy have settled down with their daughter Hannah and their adopted sons. All is wonderful until an old bad guy called Kannon comes back into town. Lacy and Rawley have a feeling that he is up to no good but he soon moves on again and out of their town, or so they think. Until Rawley and Lacey are alerted that the children have been kidnapped from the school and the teacher had been tied up and left at the school house alone.Lacy and Rawley immediately saddle up and go after the kidnappers. We also hear the story from the children's point of view, and during their time with the kidnappers, they get up to lots of mischief and mayhem, trying to escape. The book was written very well and fits in nicely with the two before it. For me, having loved the first two books I very much enjoyed reading what had happened in the characters lives since I was last reading about them. I instantly fell in love with Hannah, Rawley and Lacey's daughter, as she reminded me of Lacy when Rawley first met her, wild and unruly. She stands up for her friends and family also. Her along with cotton and the other children make this a wonderful read and I thoroughly enjoyed it when they got ‘one over’ on the kidnappers. The ending was great and was how I would imagine it to be. If you are a person who enjoys adventure, and characters with a lot of personality then this trilogy are the books for you.

Pulled me in at the first page and I was very annoyed when someone would pull me out of this book and I had to deal with real life. Juliette has painted such awesome characters with her words, I could see every expression on the characters faces, the descriptions of how each looked and I swear, I could smell how they smelled. She has a wonderful gift of describing everything around each scene, you feel as though you were there. I love how she builds the story up and takes you through a range of emotions, until the very end. You have to keep focused or the story will pass you by and you have to rewind just like a movie if you missed the action. Thank you for keeping our wild little freckled faced Lacy a little spit fire under that calm exterior. She has become a very favorite heroine and I hate to let her go. As much as I loved the first two books, I only gave 4 stars because I thought the content was too violent for me. I really thought I wouldn't read anymore of her books except to finish the series. Well I changed my mind! I have found another favorite author to follow and can't wait to see what other adventures she will take me on. Well done, Juliette! I enjoyed the ride. JudyE
