By Kalen Hammann At first blush this book is aimed at people who don't know much about marketing - and it gives them a great introduction to how to think like a marketer and why it's so essential to do so. (For example by noting that "Success is 80% marketing, only 20% your product or service.) But business owners who have been around the block a few times will find juicy specifics to apply to their own businesses that are fresh, practical, and potentially very profitable.For example, de Kaste provides a tool to help in thinking through whether to start a particular business in the first place or seek to ramp up one that isn't performing as well as you'd like by considering both how much competition you face and how high your potential profit can be. But she then goes on to point out that if, for example, your business were selling high-end jewelry, your main competition might come not form other high-end jewelers but from sellers of other luxury goods like Mercedes Benz cars, high end fasion, etc. She suggests how this can be not just an obstacle, but also an aopportunity.She repeats the principle - very valuable for a marketing newbie - that there are only three ways to increase your business reenues; By increasing the number of customers, the average size of a taransaction, or the frequency of times each customer buys. But then she offers terrific, practical ways to increase each of these in various kinds of businesses. (For example, a restaurant with 250 customers spending an average of $65 a month can raise prices just 10% - hardly noticeable on each item - but by doing so generate an extra $5000 a month in pure profit. Or a Natural Health Professional can increase the number of transactions per client by developing the mindset that it is much more convenient and keeps the client healthier when they are booked for the next appointment before they leave.)When it comes to marketing mix, de Kaste's advice flies in the face of the trendy shift toward social media marketing - for example, Facebook advertising - by pointing out that your customers may or may not be on Facebook and if they are, they may or may not be interested in buying. And if they do want to buy, your average return from new leads may or may not cover the fairly large initial investment required. Then she tells you how to find out whether Facebook or any other marketing medium will be a terrific profit center for you or a disaster. The book is well organized and easy to follow, using a "Five-Step Formula" format. The five steps are: 1. Get clear about what you want to accomplish and your unique marketing message 2. Make a personal marketing plan 3. Make marketing easy - (systems, processes, ways to leverage others' ideas) 4. Creatie the marketing mix that makes most sense for your business 5. Use "power tools" to be seen, be heard, anytime, anywhere. Because this is really a workbook, I'd have liked to see some worksheets included. I might take off half a star for that, bugt de Kaste's approach is so practical and her many specific ideas so useful that I decided to go with a full five stars. Whether you're just starting out or want to take your business to the next level, grab this book and you'll get where you want to go faster.

I find that marketing is my weak link. I know what I should be doing, but don’t feel I always have the time. de Kaste provides very easy steps to creating a realistic marketing plan. It all starts with ensuring you as a business owner are clear on your unique message. The author says to think about marketing as the engine of your business ! She explains how marketing is an investment in your business. Her real life examples help it all come to life and convey how you can easily apply this to your own business. As a business owner, time is of the essence and she provides an easy to read plan to allow the reader to implement marketing in a very easy way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who feels marketing is a weak link in their business! Thank you Sigrid!

An Effective Marketing Book For Those Who Need A Plan By joni wilson This book caught my attention because of the title: If there is a secret to Marketing my products, I want to know it. I must say that Sigrid de Kaste was able to fulfill her promise in this easy, condensed and satisfying read. Although some of the information is standard Marketing 101, she has explained simple terms and tools in a way that they seems to take on a new life. I loved the Parthenon Theory and her suggestion to match your page to your add, not your add to the page, was a great Ah-ha look at why some adds just don't work. Although the book is under 100 pages, it is very insightful and the added 35min Video was very interesting from an International Marketing platform point of view. It is well worth the price and I would recommend it. I also look forward to reading Sigrid's future offers.
