One of the best from a classic author By The Bionic Stan Set in a future where the US and Russia have divvied up the solar system, and the US is ruled by hereditary dictators under the forms of the old Constitution, this tale concerns a conspiracy to unseat the current dictator. The dialog crackles with realistic tension, and the plot moves lightning fast, yet along the way Kornbluth plants ideas that are like little time bombs in your brain.This free Kindle "book" is actually a short story. I didn't buy it, because I already have the short story in a print anthology, but since no one else has reviewed it I thought it could be useful to others.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Brilliant, Thought Provoking Short Story By Catherine Mackay A brilliant piece of short fiction from Kornbluth that had a rather fantastic twist! By story's end I have to admit that several adages came to mind, amongst them, be careful what you wish for and the grass is not always greener on the other side. A wonderful, thought provoking story from a classic sci-fi author. I highly recommend it.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent,Insightful Story By Walter Stanley I seem to remember having read something by C. M. Kornbluth a few decades ago. Though I don’t remember the story very well, I expected “The Adventurer” to be like a Conan story or heroic space opera. Instead it was a brilliantly plotted, very insightful story about government corruption and egomania. This was as fine a short science fiction story as I’ve ever read.
