Michael Turpin's third book is a collection of wit and wisdom arising out of the indignities and revelations of middle age. About the Author Michael Turpin is a graduate of literature from Claremont McKenna College and is a native of San Marino, California. He has lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, and New York. A healthcare consultant by day, he indulges his passion for writing as a contributing columnist for magazines, newspapers, and a popular blog that covers a range of topics from popular culture to the travails of modern day parents. He draws heavily on his generation’s life experiences and his literary heroes—Erma Bombeck, Woody Allen, David Sedaris, and Bill Bryson—to remind readers that the only normal people we know are those who choose to close their curtains at night. This is his third book. His first two novels, T-Rex By the Tail and Bicentennial Rex, are humorous anthems to the alpha fathers and pragmatic mothers of the Silent Generation and the passing of an age known as “Jurassic” parenting. Turpin lives in New Canaan, Connecticut, with his wife and three teenaged children.

By Jeff Stroud Are you ready to embark on an extraordinary journey linking the innocence of adolescence with the culpability of middle age… and while you are at it, enjoy some side-splitting humor while you are along for the ride? Read Mike Turpin’s “53 Is The New 38”. By means of humble, short stories Michael takes you on a voyage though some of his most personal, family experiences growing up in a well-to-do California suburb and masterfully relates them with thoughtful narrative to his current life, thinking and psychology. The result is a narrative that will enrich your reflection of your own life experience and what it means to be truly human. A great read while relaxing on the weekend, off on vacation or to lift you up out of those sometime depressing and difficult times. Enjoy this book and all it has to offer to nourish your soul!

By Jason Nappi With the Blizzard of 2016 upon us, I sat by the fire, with a scotch in hand to finish "53 Is The New 38". The perfect atmosphere to enjoy stories of a friend, who's life in California during the 60's and 70's, had similarities to mine growing up in Long Island, through the 70's and 80's. Michael's use of words describing a scene, can only be compared to a famous artist's use of a paint brush to canvas. Each sentence has texture, emotion and takes you to another place. You find yourself laughing out loud in one chapter, while pondering in the next. You remember similar situations that occurred in your life, while being transported into the author's.Michael provides great insight into life thus far, along with the ups and downs of parenting. He illustrates the pitfalls they may endure and gives ideas on how to prepare our children for their future. A perfect example of all the above, is taken from a beautiful passage within one of chapters, "When I think of the attributes I want my children to exhibit when they finally are released into the unforgiving wilderness of man, I wonder what I have done this week, this month, or this year to plant those seeds of character and virtue, generously fertilizing the life lessons with myths, stories and the history of us."Well said, my friend. Salute!

And then along comes Mike Turpin's new book 53 Is The New 38! What a fantastic ride that is both poignantly personal and yet so relatable, especially if your childhood spanned the 60's & 70's, and you've been riding your own parenting rollercoaster. Mike creates so many enjoyable windows into his past and present life - not to mention a few views of color samples and fabric swatches which will drive you to a full-on belly laugh. Mike's insightful style also makes it easy for you to catch a reflection of your own life in more than a few chapters. As a frizzle-haired finger missing musical sage would say, "Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right." And in the case of 53 Is The New 38, the light you see just might be found deep in a Turpin man cave amidst Zombies and Blackhawk copters.
