By Bill Mudron Not only does the book feature writeups on pretty much every piece of software to grace the NES, there's plenty of pieces about the history of the console, peripherals, bootleg games and the console's place in gaming history in general.The cheaper black & white print version of the book is a fine read, but the bazillion screenshots and photographs inside really pop in color - the upgrade to the full-color version is definitely worth the extra coin.

Could come in hardcover, but that's an issue with the publisher NOT the author(s). Recommended for anybody interested in learning about the history of video games!

Jeremy Parish is one of my favorite games journalists By AKP Jeremy Parish is one of my favorite games journalists, especially when it comes to tackling the retro scene. The book is a pretty thorough look at the NES library. Some games and subjects warrant multiple pages, but most featured games get a half page with a photo and brief writeup. (There are also year-by-year roundups of the rest of the games, which get a sentence or two a piece.) Physically, the book is full color on the inside; the printing/binding job is good quality to go along with a strong layout. Anyway, I'd highly recommend it if you are curious about a lot of older games but don't have time/money to investigate them all yourself.
