IT was Midsummer's Day, that delightful point toward which the whole year climbs, and from which it slips off like an ebbing wave in the direction of the distant winter. No wonder that superstitious people in old times gave this day to the fairies, for it is the most beautiful day of all. The world seems full of bird-songs, sunshine, and flower-smells then; storm and sorrow appear impossible things; the barest and ugliest spot takes on a brief charm and, for the moment, seems lovely and desirable.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. It should be "Not Quite Seventeen" By Richard Chappell When I saw the title of this book, I assumed that "Not Quite Eighteen" meant that someone was 17-years-old. Nope.Copyrighted in 1894, this is a collection of 16 short stories. Some of the tales have a moral to them, some have a virtue that is emphasized, and others are just stories for entertainment. None of them were interesting enough to read again. At the end of each short story, there is an interactive button that says 'back to contents', which will take you back to the contents page(which is not interactive).- posted by Poore Richard's wyfe
