He has written four books to date – 365 INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES, MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS, WRITE A SONG THAT WILL GET PLAYED ON THE EADIO and 7 STEPS TO SELF-CONFIDENCE. In these books it is his mission to share the life experiences he has encountered in hopes of helping others. In this book he states on his first page ‘Despite the chaos that surrounds our outer world, most often than not, it is the constant “inner chatter” we face within that causes more mayhem. Yet, while the majority of us struggle to strike a balance between inner and outer peace, a few people seem to have it all sorted out. We see them go after their dreams with a passion and drive that is hard to match. Yet, they stay detached from expectations and are unaffected by the results. They excel at everything they take up and exude a level of confidence, creativity and inner peace that is inspiring to see and emulate.’Jonny shares the fact that he began life as a shy guy – and now he is a rock star! He states, ‘It all started with a decision, what turned out to be a life-changing decision; that I was going to do everything I could to gain the confidence in myself so I could do what I loved; to perform and write music.’ He uses that in his other book on self-confidence, but he uses it here, too. In this book her shows us ‘meditative practices that range from simple breathing exercises to more complex techniques. Each technique is meant for a specific purpose and is designed to help you through different phases in your life. Surrendering to the technique wholeheartedly and without doubt can help you transcend to a state where you feel like you’re at the top of your game, a state where you feel most happy, in control, productive and most importantly, at peace!’In his usual supportive manner Jonny outlines the areas he will cover: What is Meditation?, Meditation Helps You Stay Stress Free, Meditation Helps Increase Your Productivity, Meditation Helps Exude Superior Confidence, and Meditation Helps Boost Your Creativity. And by book’s end he has provided instruction and support and states, ‘Meditation is an insightful life practice that works at transcending you to a state of inner peace and acceptance. As you explore the techniques listed in this book, you’ll invite experiences that work at transforming you to the person you wish to be. You’ll also find it easier to accept and love the person you truly are. Once you’re able to achieve this level of acceptance, you’ll experience that life’s true treasures are not meant to be sought after but to be experienced through freewill, openness and surrender.’ Truly a book for beginners – and we all are beginners if we are honest. By Dolores Ayotte Meditation for Beginners: 5 simple steps to boosting confidence, creativity and relieving stress by Author Jonny FoxThis is the second self-help book that I have read and reviewed by motivational Author Jonny Fox. After reading 7 Steps to Self-Confidence: Become Fearless, Bold and Resolute within 30 days , I was quite eager to read more suggestions in other areas of this author's expertise. The tips on how to build self-confidence really hit home for me. Now the positive guidelines on meditation techniques and the "gift" of learning to live in the present add to the previous foundation of positive thinking. In, "Meditation for Beginners: 5 simple steps to boosting confidence, creativity and relieving stress", Author Jonny Fox delves into the positive philosophy and benefits of learning meditation techniques. He stresses that it will take time and perseverance to fully capture a meditative state but it is well worth the effort. The results are profound once the mind can decrease the "inner chatter" and learn to settle into the mode of "mindfulness" rather than wasting time on mindless and unproductive thoughts. The first step in achieving these positive results is to start with the art of proper breathing. Choosing a quiet time of the day, preferably early morning, will help set the pace for a more relaxing, stress free, and hopefully more creative existence. Although, these steps may seem easy to follow, the author encourages the beginner who hopes to glean from the benefits of meditation to be patient with themselves. The desired results will not take place overnight. He emphasizes on more than one occasion that it will take time to establish a rewarding and beneficial period of meditation on a daily basis.I fully agree when he concludes that "mediation is an insightful life practice that works at transcending you to a state of inner peace and acceptance". Learning to "accept and love" who we truly are is definitely the foundation for all good things to come. As in the first book, Author Jonny Fox writes from the wealth of his own experiences. In doing so, he gives well-thought out and authentic suggestions based on the positive results attained in his own life. In other words, he is the living proof that what he suggests in his guidebooks actually works. He obviously believes in a "do as I do" philosophy in life which is a trait I truly admire and respect.Inspirational Author & Book Reviewer ~ Dolores AyotteUp The "Down" Ladder: Simple Ideas to Overcome Depression

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Highly Recommended By Terry W. Sprouse This book provides all you need to know to get started meditating. The author inspires us to practice meditation by observing that a precious few people “go after their dreams with a passion and drive that is hard to match. Yet, the stay detached from expectations and are unaffected by results.”Those words rang true for me because it seems that most people are enthusiastic participants in the “rat race,” with the primary result being, a stress filled life. The author offers a solution to our stress and anxiety through the practice of meditation. The “mindfulness” that results from meditation creates an additional “cognitive layer,” one that observes and records everything but with emotional disconnect, like an outside observer. If you would allow me to insert my own interpretation of this “cognitive layer,” I see it as a Mr. Spock-type (of Star Trek fame) persona that passionlessly observes the turmoil all around him, but is never engulfed in the turmoil. His characteristic response to the situation is “fascinating,” as he always stays on an even keel.In my case, I practice meditating while taking a walk in a park or along a wash. I frequently have my trusty companion, Blackie- the Wonder Dog, along with me for company. I always return from my mindful walk feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. The author takes us through the steps, in easily understandable terms, of exactly how to meditate and describes what to expect as we begin this propitious journey.Highly recommended.

It was the middle of autumn, and had rained all day. Through the lozenge-panes of the wide oriel window the world appeared in the slowly gathering dusk not a little dismal. The drops that clung trickling to the dim glass added rain and gloom to the landscape beyond, whither the eye passed, as if vaguely seeking that help in the distance, which the dripping hollyhocks and sodden sunflowers bordering the little lawn, or the honeysuckle covering the wide porch, from which the slow rain dropped ceaselessly upon the pebble-paving below, could not give—steepy slopes, hedge-divided into small fields, some green and dotted with red cattle, others crowded with shocks of bedraggled and drooping corn, which looked suffering and patient.

Mook Bridgman This book follows two young people, Dorothy and Richard, through the English Civil War of the 1600's. They have always been friends and are on the verge of falling in love when they find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. Dorothy is an Anglican who believes in the divine right of kings; Richard is a "Roundhead," part of the radical Reformation with its emphasis on personal commitment and personal liberty. Dorothy takes shelter with the local earl, who is--gasp!--a Catholic, but a royalist, and learns to love and respect him and his family. Richard sees both the ideals and the petty politics of the rebellion. Both learn that people who sincerely follow their conscience on opposing sides may be closer to each other than to supposed allies who are out for power or simply following a party line. At the same time, the book is a gripping action story involving captures, escapes, secret passages, amazing inventions, battles, spy missions, an escaped panther, and a good deal of humor. Don't let the old-fashioned language put you off a great read.

It is a little slow at the beginning, but becomes more action packed as it advances. It is an historical styled novel set in old time England within the religious wars between Catholics and Protestants.

This one is about the era of Cromwell. It has a love story around a 'roundhead' (a follower of Cromwell) and a royalist. MacDonald throws in a castle and some great characters.

The Enchanted Castle, by Edith Nesbit

Amazon.com Review A plot summary makes this story sound ordinary by children's literature standards: the summer adventures of four children who discover an enchanted castle and a magic ring. But Edith Nesbit's adored classic (written in 1907) is so much more than the description suggests. Right from the start, the author plays with the idea of magic, teasing us with a sleeping princess who turns out to be a fake. Elsewhere, the magic is "real" as can be--in fact, though written nearly 100 years ago, The Enchanted Castle prefigures the magical realism of modern novels in the matter-of-fact way it weaves the uncanny into the children's everyday life. And, while few authors are confident enough to parody bad writing, Nesbit does it hilariously (and ever so gently) through one character's tendency to "talk like a book": "'To brush his hair and his clothes... was to our hero but the work of a moment,' said Gerald." Things turn scary when the Ugly Wuglies, fake people made from painted cardboard masks, old clothes, and broomsticks, come to life. But on the whole this book about enchantment--much praised by such luminaries as H.G. Wells and Noel Coward--is, simply, enchanting. (Ages 6 and older) --Richard Farr

Review ''The popular British author's adventures of childhood have always been good read-aloud choices; the audiobook format superbly showcases them.'' --AudioFile

About the Author EDITH NESBIT (1858-1924) lived in England and had dreamed of becoming a poet since she was fifteen years old. After her husband fell ill, it was up to her to support her small family. For the next nineteen years, she published a number of novels, essays, articles, poems, and short stories. But it was not until 1899, when The Story of the Treasure Seekers was published, that she achieved great success. Her groundbreaking style of depicting realistic, believable children quickly gained a popularity that has lasted for more than a century. She was brilliant at combining real-life situations with elements of fantasy and humour. Films such as The Railway Children have kept her stories in the public eye and her magical fantasies, including Five Children and It, continue to delight each new generation of children.

As you can imagine, several of them ask, "What do you have that's like Harry Potter?" I always recommend E. Nesbit's books. They never know who I'm talking about. But they usually become interested very quickly.Edith Nesbit was an outspoken British writer who wrote enormously entertaining children?s books in her later years. Many of these books combine normal, everyday children with magical themes or elements. In 'The Enchanted Castle,' three children - Gerald, Cathy, and Jimmy - stumble upon a lush, beautiful garden, where they find a princess who has been asleep for 100 years. Or is she really who she says she is? All the children know is that something strange is going on - like why are the statues moving?'The Enchanted Castle' IS enchanting. The writing is colorful, exciting, and engaging. If your child is looking for something in the Harry Potter vein, the E. Nesbit books are just what the doctor ordered. Kids won't even care that it was written nearly 100 years ago. It still reads pretty well today, and that's what counts.291 pages

My son, age 8, was going to read it himself, but we soon found his sister, age 6, wanted me to read it instead (so I could do the "voices") so it has been turned into the nightly story. The characters: Gerald, Kathleen, and Jimmy are each drawn clearly and individually. My children are fascinated with Gerald's way of speaking as though he were telling a story. And they love Kathleen's way of alternating between being practical and yet longing for all things "magical". Jimmy is funny and endearing, as he is at that age of Not believing and yet eager for adventure. Their friend Mabel is full of mystery and make-believe and soon pulls them into a grand escapade. The author is able to vividly paint each person and each scene. It is with great reluctance we put the book down after a couple of chapters each night, wanting to finish all at once, but wanting the magic to last a little longer. When we finished, we all decided it was one of our favorites. Extremely well written. I did not find even the beginning dull or slow. From start to finish, this is one of the best children's books I've found. And we've read very many.

Magical By A Customer I first read this book at the age of 10, and have made a point of reading it again nearly yearly ever since, for more than 30 years. It is timeless and magical, and for adults as well as children, as long as they have kept their childhood beliefs in enchantment alive. I am not in the habit of gushing praise, but this is absolutely the best book I have ever read, and has become a part of my children's lives as well. I am so happy to see it in print again. My mother searched everywhere for it in the 60's because I was so enamored with it that I wanted to copy it by hand, if necessary. I am now ordering a new untattered copy to keep forever.

There is plenty of whimsicality in the literary market. Most of it, unfortunately, has that note of the facetious spinster which the New England magazines have made so famous. Mr. Clarence Day's whimsicality is quite virile; it is the expression of a naturally ingenuous mind; "innocent" in the Nietzschean sense and not incapable of a certain gentle philosophic malice. In "This Simian World" Mr. Day invades the animal kingdom in the spirit of La Fontaine in order to discover man; his aim is to aid the dissemination of a realistic view of life. Are we or are we not Simians? [he asks]. It is no use for any man to try to think anything else out until he has decided first of all, where he stands on that question.... If we are fallen angels, we should go this road: if we are super-apes, that. Mr. Day entertains the question, but not too long; he not only asserts that we are Simians, he points out the danger of becoming under-simianized: “Look at Mrs. Humphry Ward and George Washington. Worthy souls, but no flavour." And he then shows how the decision bears upon education. politics, industry, etc., the right line in each case being that which is most congruous with our own nature and best fitted to develop it. Mr. Day is at his cleverest in his account of natural selection. He surveys the possibilities of all the other animals, suggests what the world would have been like if the cats, the pigs or the elephants had become the masters and created a feline, a porcine or an elephantine civilization, and shows why the Simians won the race. In effect. he draws an ethic from Darwinism, one that compares more than favourably with Herbert Spencer’s. —The Freeman, Volume 1 [1920]

A Little Princess is a 1905 children's novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is an expanded version of Burnett's 1888 short story entitled Sara Crewe: or, What Happened at Miss Minchin's, which was first serialized in St. Nicholas Magazine from 1887 to 1888. According to Burnett, after she composed the 1902 play based on the story, her publisher asked that she expand the story into the novel with "the things and people that had been left out before." The original book, A Little Princess: Being the Whole Story of Sara Crewe Now Being Told for the First Time, was published by Charles Scribner's Sons with illustrations by Ethel Franklin Betts. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association named the book one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children." It was one of the "Top 100 Chapter Books" of all time in a 2012 poll by School Library Journal.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful By Jessica B. Frances Hodgson Burnett's way of writing, even in the author's note, has a whimsical, magical child-like tone to it that is very endearing. And like a child, the author can also be bluntly honest which made me laugh.I loved reading about Sarah and the teacher that is jealous of her. In all honesty, the imaginative and optimistic Sarah was a much better teacher to the girls at the school. The teacher and other adults in the story seemed to delight in other's misfortunes while Sarah felt deep empathy towards them and tried her best to help them. I loved Sarah's imagination and her ability to use it to bring happiness to her and others around her no matter how bad things in their life were. Sarah had a beautiful ability to see things from someone else's view. She even befriends a rat. I couldn't help thinking that even though Sarah is just a child, I would like to be as kind, loving, and happy and she is.When you will not fly into a passion people know you are stronger than they are, because you are strong enough to hold in your rage, and they are not, and they say stupid things they wish they hadn’t said afterward. There’s nothing so strong as rage, except what makes you hold it in— that’s stronger.- Frances Hodgson Burnett, A Little Princess (p. 94).A Little Princess was one of my favorite movies as a kid and although the movie was different than the book it was based on, it still had the great characters and imagination that I loved in the movie. The movie amped up the conflict and made it a little more sad than the book, but if you liked the movie you will definitely like the book.Overall, it's a beautifully written classic about the power of imagination.

A year later, I was delighted to find that there were more books by the lovely Burnett, and I read A Little Princess with delight. This book is a delight. It takes an improbable premise and makes you believe the story with some kind of magic charm amassed from witty dialogue and heartbreaking sufferings and skillful narration. Wonderful, hopeful, imaginative Sara will always hold a place in my heart and be a role model for me. I highly recommend reading this classic!

By LittleBeeMama As a girl, I loved reading A Little Princess and wanted to purchase a copy to share with my daughter. One aspect of the book that I loved was that the main character Sara had dark-hair (like me). So I am disappointed to see that the cover art of this book features a blonde girl. Clearly, the artist never read the actual book, because Sara clearly states in Chapter 1: "I have short black hair and green eyes."
