Delightful book By Amy The Two Sides of the Shield is the sequel to one of Yonge's earliest books, Scenes and Characters, but it was written many years after that book. While the first book is a pleasant read, this book shows the author's maturity and more highly developed writing skills.The protagonist of this book is a 13 year old girl, which makes this book a good selection for children. She's a girl who has read too many novels of poor quality, affecting the way she perceives the world. Yonge skillfully develops a story line with a strong moral message but does it so well that that readers don't feel they're being preached to.
