By Julie Haigh One of best things I ever did was to download 'The Not So Secret Emails Of Coco Pinchard' (Book 1 in the series) by Robert Bryndza when it was on free promo in the amazon top 100 Free Bestsellers-I've now read them all! This one was fab, fab, fab-as always, and that was right from the word go. I love the diary format, it's great to see it again. The scenes in the book take place at Christmas 1992, from Dec 14th to Christmas Day. I love the brilliant eye-catching cover; it's colourful, snappy and looks really good. I didn't have to wait very long for a chuckle-just about 10 lines into it and there it was! Rosencrantz's poem is an absolute scream! The book is so well-observed with expert descriptions of his characters. As well as the comedy, this is wonderfully nostalgic-I remember many happy hours watching Thunderbirds-and Blue Peter! Coco's mother-in-law, Ethel, is priceless! She just tells it like it is! I love how Ethel's accent is expressed, she's so funny. The story is set when Coco's son is four years old, it's Christmas and we have the frantic rush and hilarious farce to obtain that elusive and most desirable Christmas gift, the top toy of that year. I love Ethel's expressions and sayings, this book is hugely enjoyable! Hilarious images are created as you read. Laugh after laugh after laugh. It's absolutely brimming with Christmas cheer, laughs galore-perfect for any time of year though! As with his previous Christmas Novella, it's a shortish book, approx 140 pages-I always wonder how he manages to pack SO MUCH into a little book such as this-it's jam-packed! It continued to be absolutely hilarious-can I give this ten stars?!!! I had tears of laughter running down my face lots of times reading it. It's AMAZING! So many laughs-BRILLIANT!

By Anima Giraldez Oh, how I have missed the humor of Coco and her family. The craziness of Christmas shopping has gotten every parent worked up and stressed over finding the right toy. I remember by Uncle joining the crazies when Cabbage Patch Kids were the rage. What will parents do for that toy? Coco does it all from buying it in random places, waiting in line, and getting crafty. If you know Coco you know nothing will happen easily and she struggles to be the awesome mom and get the fabulous toy. If you've read the other books you will identify all the characters. Rosencrantz is only four and Coco is married to Daniel, and of course Ethel is a thorn in her side. We get to see the early years of the Pinchard marriage and how she meets Marika. If you are a new reader, no worries the story is fun and silly anyway. Then you can enjoy the rest of the books and have insight to everyone. Thank you Robert for letting me have an early read, always a treat!

(doesn't have to be in order) By Dianne I can’t remember the last time I laughed this much reading a story! (It must have been the last Coco story I read)! It was so much fun to go back in time and read about the whole family together and to find out how Coco and Marika became friends. Rosencrantz is a little boy and he has sent a letter to Santa telling him that he wants a certain toy. As a parent, we all understand the need to fulfill our child’s Christmas wish. As usual Coco tries her hardest but continually fails. You will have so much fun reading about her escapades. This is a novella and you can easily read it in one afternoon (I did). You can read this as your first Coco book or at any point in between. I don’t feel that it is necessary to read this book in the order of publication as it is a look back in time and it doesn’t have any spoilers contained in it. I can’t wait for the next Coco adventure!

I am a small business owner, and although my presence on Google is pretty good, there are quite a few things that I desperately need working on. A sales funnel, the dynamics of which are very well explained in this book, is key. I always though having books would do the trick, but one should have many more high and low end products. I'd better get workng now!

He espouses, instead, a form-cycle approach to handicapping horse races. Believing that horses and their trainers win in cycles, Cramer attempts to illustrate this hypothesis with examples from the Racing Form . He deduces that a bettor can make a profit from analyzing past performance charts, spotting a pattern, and predicting the next win based on similar circumstances. While form cycles are something to consider when handicapping, the effort required to locate a pattern for several different horses among thousands and retain potentially helpful observations is a time-consuming full-time job. There are many excellent books on the "SCIENCE" of handicapping. But this book brings home the the reality that races are won by flesh and blood animals prepared by mortals (trainers) who are fraught with their own strengths and weaknessses.Anyone who extrapolates figures from services or computer programs water down the past performance to a number. Predicting the future(handicapping the "ART"), is far more involved in "cycles". This book is a must read for all serious handicappers

Excellent By David Bridgforth Form cycle analysis has become mainstream for handicappers of horse racing and Cramer's book here is probably the most complete on the subject. He discusses what to look for in identifying cycles from horse past performances, and includes material on how trainers fall into cycles and patterns of winning and losing as well. His methods will always have a place in the game because you will never duplicate Cramer's observations with computer programs. Cramer's material is always well written and easy to understand for students of the game.

A must have for any handicapper By Amazon Customer This was the first book I read from Mark Cramer, it introduced me to a whole new way of looking at the races. Before I read this I was in the slump of my life and couldn't pick a decent winner to save my life. Cramer's ideas of looking for patterns and trends in past performances and trainers' habits, as well as the importance of pedigree and wagering value, highlight this great read. Also the last part of the book is a workshop where you can put Cramer's ideas to use. After I finished this book I immediately picked up Cramer's "Value Handicapping," and went on to have the best summer at Del Mar that I have ever had in 20 years! Have now almost read all of Cramer's books and wish he would write more because to me he is the most brilliant mind in handicapping and especially value betting.

Jonathan Edwards was born October 5, 1703, in what is now South Windsor, Conn., a part of the parish then known as “Windsor Farmes.” His father, the Rev. It includes Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God, which has great historical significance to the First Great Awakening, which helped to spur the American Revolution. This book has great spiritual depth and shows insight that's rarely seen in today's sermons. It also has great historical significance as Edwards' is America's only theologian and a very important part of America's past.It can sometimes be a little hard to get into Edwards' writings, but these sermons really aren't dry once you're acquainted with his style. I did find the forward to be a little too long and somewhat out of date, though it included some interesting information on his life.

This is one of those rare occasions, and there are more than one. Do not assume that just because it if free to download that it cannot be of value to you. Quite the opposite, you owe it to yourself to read the sermons, ponder them and see the light.

A Tolerably Good Read By sbpendragon Set in the 1800's, two young gentlemen from England arrive in Australia to try their luck at beginning a new life. They soon encounter rogue bushrangers, disaffected Aborigines and the harsh Australian countryside. The story is relatively short and a fast read. It is a tolerably good book but not fantastic. The attitude towards the Aborigines is definitely not PC but accurate for its time.

I would recommend it because it allows you to get your feet wet without losing your shirt to the big PPC search engines. Could still use more info but overall, I'm happy with my purchase as it has brought me closer to trying PPC than other books I've read. Don't let this be the only one you read, but make it one of several.

In Defense of Women is H. L. Mencken's 1918 book on women and the relationship between the sexes. Some laud the book as progressive while others brand it as reactionary. While Mencken did not champion women's rights, he described women as wiser in many novel and observable ways, while demeaning average men.

According to Mencken's biographer, Fred Hobson:

"Depending on the position of the reader, he was either a great defender of women's rights or, as a critic labelled him in 1916, 'the greatest misogynist since Schopenhauer','the country's high-priest of woman-haters.'"

The original goal of Defense was to help clarify Mencken's views on women, garnered from an inconsistent and confusing reputation in newspaper columns, various reviews, and several plays. Along with Marion Bloom and Kay Laurell, Mencken gathered material for his book not from libraries and universities, but from saloons and hotels.

The original title for Defense was A Book for Men Only, but other working titles included The Eternal Feminine as well as The Infernal Feminine. Originally published by Philip Goodman in 1918, Mencken released a new edition in 1922 in an attempt to bring the book to a wider audience. This second edition, published by Alfred Knopf, was both much longer and milder.

In general, biographers describe Defense as "ironic": it was not so much a defense of women as a critique of the relationship between the sexes. Topics covered by the book included "Woman's Equipment," "Compulsory Marriage," "The Emancipated Housewife," and "Women as Martyrs." Women were gaining rights, according to Mencken - the ability to partake in adultery without lasting public disgrace, the ability to divorce men, and even some escape from the notion of virginity as sacred, which remained as "one of the hollow conventions of Christianity." Women nonetheless remained restrained by social conventions in many capacities.

MENCKEN (1880-1956), Baltimore journalist, critic, and essayist, began his career on local newspapers in 1899, becoming editor of the Evening Herald in 1905-6, then serving on the staff of the Evening Sun during 1916-17 as a war correspondent in Germany. He became literary critic of The Smart Set in 1908, and was co-editor of this lively periodical with George Jean Nathan. Mencken and Nathan also founded The American Mercury in 1924, which Mencken edited until 1933. Mencken is best known for the aggressive iconoclasm of his editorial policies in these magazines, especially during the decade following World War I, when he exhibited a savagely satirical reaction against the political and cultural imperfections of the time.

Moses Mencken's "In Defense of Women" has such a bad reputation in some circles that I'm almost afraid to review it for fear of virtual grenades. But surely the bad reputation is unjustified, for whether one approves of Mencken's conclusions or not, it would seem hard to deny the nobility of the his intentions in publishing them. He simply wished to help us rid ourselves of some harmful and incorrect stereotypes. To wit: men think they are intelligent and clear-headed while women are emotional and sentimental. But in reality, Mencken explains, it is men who are prone to sentiment and women who are intelligent and clear-headed. Of course many things follow from both the misconception and the "truth." Although it may be useful to some people to know Mencken's ideas about the sexes (I find this knowledge useful), perhaps the best reason to read "In Defense of Women" is that it is incredibly entertaining. If you are not amused by Mencken's style, or if you are afraid that you might encounter an uncomfortable truth or two, then by all means keep safely away.

No one was better at invective than Mencken, and his defense of women is far more of an attack on men than a defense of the "unfair" sex, as Ambrose Bierce signified our better half. Mencken's basic argument goes something like this: women are pretty bad; men are worse; therefore, women are better than men. This is, to be sure, a gross over-simplification. Mencken's argument is really much more sophisticated and ingenious. He picked it up, he tells us elsewhere, from a madame of a bordello. It contains a great deal more truth than most people would be willing to admit. Mencken's hillarious presentation is recommended only to hardened cynics (which is to say, hardened realists). Sensitive people with "beautiful" souls are well advised to avoid this brilliant book.

By Martian Bachelor Reading this book made me wonder "where are the men of today who are writing like this on these topics?" -- things like soul mates, monogamy/polygamy, affairs, prostitution, romance novels, Darwin's theory of sexual selection, the double standard, the "Madonna/whore complex" (not called that then), sexual harassment, employment discrimination, abolishing marriage, and declining marriage and birth rates all make an appearance in the book. And much of it retains its essential truth. The more things change...It's especially interesting to see where HLM was right and where he turned out to be wrong. For instance: the book was written just before men gave women the vote (i.e., during World War I, when Mencken was in his mid-to-upper thirties and still a bachelor); Mencken thought women voting would cure politics of rampant corruption -- because women wouldn't allow such shenanigans. This is not to say that he had any kind things to say about the suffragettes. He didn't, and some of what he wrote was outrageously funny. One can extrapolate in a straight line to some of today's feminists.His basic thesis -- which may or may not have been meant to be taken seriously -- is that women are more intelligent than men, the proof being the ease with which they typically defeat men in the war between the sexes:"I am convinced that the average woman, whatever her deficiencies, is greatly superior to the average man. The very ease with which she defies and swindles him in several capital situations of life is the clearest of proofs of her general superiority. She did not obtain her present high immunities as a gift from the gods, but only after a long and often bitter fight, and in that fight she exhibited forensic and tactical talents of a truly admirable order. There was no weakness of man that she did not penetrate and take advantage of. There was no trick that she did not put to effective use. There was no device so bold and inordinate that it daunted her."It would be fifty years before Esther Vilar's "The Manipulated Man" continued with many of the same themes. But Mencken was quite prescient in the section on women's martyrdom, which today we'd call their claim to victimhood or being "oppressed". I could go on at some length about how close his description of marriage is to what prevails today (based on reports which come to my attention), but I'll spare you.I'm sorry I waited so long to get around to this book, as it's truly a classic written by a great mind -- a highly recommended trip above the stratosphere for all men and, especially, bachelors.

The Call of the Wild is a novel by Jack London published in 1903. The story is set in the Yukon during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush—a period in which strong sled dogs were in high demand. The novel's central character is a dog named Buck, a domesticated dog living at a ranch in the Santa Clara Valley of California as the story opens. Stolen from his home and sold into service as sled dog in Alaska, he reverts to a wild state. Buck is forced to fight in order to dominate other dogs in a harsh climate. Eventually he sheds the veneer of civilization, relying on primordial instincts and learned experience to emerge as a leader in the wild. London lived for most of a year in the Yukon collecting material for the book. The story was serialized in the Saturday Evening Post in the summer of 1903; a month later it was released in book form. The novel’s great popularity and success made a reputation for London. Much of its appeal derives from the simplicity of this tale of survival. As early as 1908 the story was adapted to film and it has since seen several more cinematic adaptations.

About the Author Jack London (1876–1916) John Griffith "Jack" London (born John Griffith Chaney, January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American author, journalist, and social activist. A pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in the Klondike Gold Rush, as well as the short stories "To Build a Fire", "An Odyssey of the North", and "Love of Life". He also wrote of the South Pacific in such stories as "The Pearls of Parlay" and "The Heathen", and of the San Francisco Bay area in The Sea Wolf. London was part of the radical literary group, "The Crowd", in San Francisco, and a passionate advocate of unionization, socialism, and the rights of workers. He wrote several powerful works dealing with these topics, such as his dystopian novel The Iron Heel, his non-fiction exposé The People of the Abyss, and The War of the Classes.

It inspired me to read more books and especially all of the London books. I enjoyed the raw animus, the Alaska wilderness, and the struggle to survive. I love adventure, the outdoors, dogs, hunting, fishing, and hiking. Consequently, this book was a perfect start for me.Buck is a beloved character and the book is very well written - so well, that I could suggest it as a writing clinic in itself! Highly recommended. Buck realizes his potential By Bernie Gold was found in Alaska, the rush to obtain it required a strong constitution and many dogs to do the work that horses usually did in the states. The environment bread harsh attitudes. Also in the testing of ones mettle one finds their true potential.Buck (a dog that is half St Bernard and half Shepherd) goes through many lives, trials, and tribulations finally realizing his potential. On the way he learns many concepts from surprise, to deceit, and cunning; he also learns loyalty, devotion, and love. As he is growing he feels the call of the wild.This book is well written. There is not a wasted word or thought and the story while building on its self has purpose and direction. The descriptions may be a tad graphic for the squeamish and a tad sentimental for the romantic. You see the world through Buck's eyes and understand it through his perspective until you also feel the call of the wild.

It has murder, suicide, intrigue and things that would get a teenager into Shakespeare.I've had mixed success with some of the free Kindle versions of Shakespeare. Some have been good, some have been awful. This is an exceptional version. It's formatted nicely and is easy to read. The only "lack" is that it is without line numbers, so if you were to use this for academic reasons, you might have an issue or two.Thus far, Othello's my favorite free Shakespeare play. I missed how much of a jerk Iago was, and all the deception that lead to Othello killing Desdemona.If you've got a Kindle and want to read Shakespeare, then download this version.

32 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Shakespeare's best Villain By R. J. Marsella Is there any other character in all of literature who is as calculatingly evil as Shakespeare's Iago? His jealousy over being passed over in favor of Cassio engenders a revengeful scheme that turns jealousy into a weapon used to destroy the noble Othello. Here innocence and trust is contrasted with pure manipulation and evil in what is one of Shakespeare's most revealing tragedies. The characters act exactly as they would be expected to based on the overriding quality that they represent. Othello is wonderful Shakespearean drama that ranks among his greatest works.The Folger Library editions are my favorite. Each page has a facing page that explains obscure terms and helps as a handy reference to make reading the plays pleasurable and educational. These paperback editions of Shakespeare's works are a great value and fit in your pocket.

The only mystery is why the author chose that title. This is not a romantic love story. The love involved here is love of family and friends .Not openly expressed , but implied throughout the novel. This is the tale of three teen-age boys and their summer adventures. It is very well written by one of my favorite authors, who was extremely talented. It takes place in England during the late 19th century.Mr Temple, a mining expert, and his two 15 or 16 year old twin sons, Arthur (Taff) and Richard (Dick), come to stay at Peter Churchtown, a Cornish fishing village, for the summer. The boys are entirely different. Taff is foppish and firmly believes he is "above" all the common fishermen and other folks they deal with in the village. Plus he is "afraid of his own shadow" while Dick is full of adventure and eager to make friends with any and all people he meets. He is also determined to become involved with anything that presents itself.Dick meets up with Will Marion, a very cleaver studious boy who is involved with the local fishing business. Will's parents are dead and he lives with his uncle Abram and aunt Ruth. He has a good old English public school education and knows both Latin and Greek. He is a fisherman, but longs to do-be much more. His closest friend and fishing mate is Josh, an older man who knows all there is to know about fishing and the waters around the village.Those are the major characters in the novel and it relates the interaction between / among them. Pus it records the adventures (and misadventures) of the boys - and various people of the village. The novel is chuck full of exciting, sometimes dangerous and often frightening events which totally captured my attention. I truly enjoyed the novel from start to finish and I highly recommend reading it..

Pourtant, à la lecture de ses "Nouvelles asiatiques", on se trouve en face d'un observateur intelligent et surtout infiniment respectueux des mœurs et coutumes des peuples du Proche et du Moyen-Orient. Grand voyageur, diplomate en poste à Téhéran où il fut ministre plénipotentiaire, Gobineau a rencontré de nombreuses personnalités politiques et religieuses et étudié les coutumes des peuples musulmans du Proche et du Moyen Orient, dont il parlait couramment les langues. Les "Nouvelles asiatiques" sont donc l'œuvre d'un érudit, qui parle de ce qu'il a vu par lui-même ou appris de nombreux témoignages, mais également d'un conteur hors-pair. Injustement méconnue, étouffée qu'elle a été par l'exploitation à des fins politiques de ses écrits théoriques, l'œuvre romanesque de Gobineau mérite d'être appréciée pour sa vision romantique de l'Orient. On ne s'ennuie guère à la lecture de ces six nouvelles, toutes d'excellente facture, mais j'ai bien ri à la lecture de "La guerre des Turcomans" et ai pleuré à chaudes larmes sur "Les amants de Kandahar".
