From the Author Why write a biography of Verna Felton? I was consistently asked this question not only in casual conversations but also during interviews with individuals who actually knew the actress. One questioned whether there was an audience for such a book "in a world much changed" since Verna Felton's heyday. Another suggested that she did not deserve a book of her own but perhaps rather an inclusion in one that featured career profiles of sitcom second bananas. Yet another doubted that there was much of a story to tell at all. Such talk only provided more fuel for my research. However, I did not know much about Miss Felton's background when I was asked to write her biography. I had fallen in love with her characterization of Hilda Crocker on TV's December Bride when I was no more than six years old, and from time to time, I caught some of her movies on television. I had tried to find out more about her, but like so many other supporting players, Miss Felton remained overlooked by contemporary film historians. Delving into her background, I discovered that Verna Felton had led a most interesting life. As an amateur genealogist, I got swept up in her family history as well. While the average reader may consider some content as superfluous, I have chosen to include detailed information regarding my subject's relatives and intimates because their life stories might never be recorded otherwise. Verna Felton's career spanned sixty-five years and encompassed nearly thirty years of stage appearances, countless radio credits, a top-ten television series, and twenty-four films---including six Disney classics. Why not write a biography of Verna Felton?

Lucas Fredrick Tucker's new book, "Verna Felton" is an insightful, interesting, and informative look into the life of one of the greatest character actresses to ever grace the small screen. Being a TV fanatic, I immediately thumbed to the chapters about December Bride and Pete & Gladys. Delightfully included were details about her many guest appearances on other classics such as I Love Lucy, and Burns & Allen. What I discovered was a fascinating treasure trove of stories and anecdotes about her time on these beloved series', as well as a candid look into the lives and personalities of the stars she worked with throughout the medium. Rare photos and insights from those who worked with Felton greatly accentuate the book to make this one of the most excellent biographies I've ever read. A detailed episode guide for December Bride and Pete and Gladys were the icing on the cake. The peek into her television career is only the tip of the iceberg of Tucker's book. Felton's tremendously successful career in radio is detailed as well as her time on the big screen. Felton's life story has been painstakingly researched and highlighted with the inclusion of rare photos from her personal memorabilia, as well as interviews and documentation from Felton's own family.This book is a quality read and one that should not be missed. Kudos on Tucker's successful endeavor.

An unbeatable bio of an unforgettable performer By david30084 Fredrick Tucker's biography of this beloved character actress was definitely a labor of love, one that richly rewards the reader. Felton's lengthy and accomplished career is given full attention here, ranging from her early stage work to her radio roles, her fame as Hilda Crocker on "December Bride," and her classic work in Disney animated films. Based both on an amazing collection of family memorabilia (did you ever think you'd see one of Verna's own baby pictures?!) and extensive interviews with colleagues, family, and friends, Tucker's book gives us a full-bodied portrait of this wonderful actress. More than 200 photos enrich the text. This may well be the only biography Verna ever receives -- thanks to Fredrick Tucker's amazing work, though, it's the only one we'll ever need.

Fredrick has gone way and above the usual showbiz books by writing intricate details on the life of Ms Felton and the December Bride series. nowhere else has there been as much information and enjoyment about reading of tv's bygone days.and the wonderful folks that made it that way.if you havent heard of Verna Felton it doesnt matter because you will feel like you have known her for years after reading this magnificent well researched biography. which deserves alot of praise for finding new material and never before stories on an obscure actress from tv and radio.she died in 1966 yet the book makes you feel it was only yesterday.the writing of her life and the history of December Bride make you feel as if you were there and on the set. which isnt an easy task in writing about a visual medium.if you love old tv. if you love old stars or if you just want an informative biography this is one of the best to come out in years. I could only hope that Mr.Tucker does write another biography because he wrote this one as it should be. fun and informative with a hint of nostalgia. once read you will never forget the name of verna felton.
