3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great book! By Ryan D. Sarenpa Get this book. It is a great book to read. But first get The Moon-Voyage. If you want to read other space books by Jules Verne than get Off on a Comet! and From the Earth to the Moon; and Round the Moon.

These clueless adventurers didn't seem to be even aware of much of the science of the day as they shoot out of a cannon towards the moon. I found it quite comical and farcical.As Verne seems to do with much of his writing (Around the World in Eighty Days, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), he uses the setting to espouse all of his knowledge on the topic at hand, whether it be flora and fauna, or geography, or as in this case, outer space.The final chapters were a cynical portrayal of people's egotism and obstinacy.Although I enjoyed the book, I would not rate it as good as his others, especially in terms of "believability". Much of it was too far-fetched, even for the limited knowledge of the nineteenth century.
