This book is the result of a lifelong obsession with riddles and brain teasers. I have carefully selected the best riddles of all time. These riddles are categorized in such a way to optimize your attention and reasoning capabilities. I have set the easiest riddles as a warm up in the first chapter. There are classical riddles and “who am I?” riddles that should help to get you into the right state of mind and ready you for the other tricky riddles. There may also be word puzzles and mathematical brain teasers that kids will love. The first part can be geared towards young readers. As you go nearer the end of the book, the riddles and brain teasers may be more complicated. Some of the questions can be tricky. The way they are constructed can be equally confusing. It is important that you read attentively on how the riddles are constructed and delivered.

Riddles and still more riddles Absolute Fun By donald montano My girlfriend and I had fun with it, She is a retired high school principle with more degrees than I can count, I, on the other side of the spectrum, barely graduated from prep school. But we still make a good team when playing word games or card games. The Riddle Collection is so much more, because you have to actually think of ways to not trap yourself when trying to come up with the correct answer. By that I mean the answer may be more than obvious and at other times the answer defies logic and is not obvious at all. In the end we laughed and we cried foul when reading an answer we could not figure out. Definitely, this book is going to another home; it cannot stay here. Too much excitement forms in the air when we are keeping score for pouring the wine. It will become a gift to Alivia, our six year old granddaughter. We are both curious to see how many riddles she gets the answers to. It is truly a brain teaser for all ages.

About the Author Arguably one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era, Charles Dickens is the author of such literary masterpieces as A Tale of Two Cities (1859), A Christmas Carol (1843), David Copperfield (1850), and The Adventures of Oliver Twist (1839), among many others. Dickens' s indelible characters and timeless stories continue to resonate with readers around the world more than 130 years after his death. Dickens was born in 1812 and died in 1870.English novelist and playwright Wilkie Collins was a prolific writer with a body of work comprising thirty novels, over sixty short stories, more than a dozen plays, and a wide range of non-fiction pieces. Collins is best known for his novels The Woman in White, an early sensation novela genre combining shocking gothic horror with everyday domestic settingsand The Moonstone, which is credited as one of the first modern mystery novels. In the 1850s Collins met Charles Dickens and the two struck up a friendship, which lead to Collins becoming a frequent contributor to Dickens s journals Household Words and All the Year Round. Many of his stories have been adapted for film, including Basil, A Terribly Strange Bed, The Moonstone and The Woman in White. Collins died in 1889 at the age of 65.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A very fine free book By Israel Drazin I have written in the past in my reviews of books by Francis Trollope, the mother of Anthony Trollope, that it is possible today to get classical books for free from sources such as amazon, and many of them are fun to read. I encouraged readers of good literature to take advantage of these sources. The books are now made available at no cost because they are public property; their copyright has expired. "No Thoroughfare" by Charles Dickens and Wilkie Collins, two superb writers, is a good example of an excellent book to read. It is a mixture of a play within a novella. There are essentially three plots filled with interesting characters, the kind that these master writers are able to invent. One plot focuses on a foundling who believes that he was taken by his real mother from the institution when he was just entering his teen-age years. She, a wealthy woman, was also convinced because of unusual circumstances that the boy is her own son. The two lived together in a warm and loving relationship for about half a dozen years. When she died, she left her estate to the young man she believed was her son. Then a circumstance arose that revealed to the young man that he was not the woman's true son. He feels very guilty and thinks that the woman who gave him his current wealth really wanted it to go to her natural child. He makes every effort he can to find this person. The second plot focuses on this young man's business partner. He falls in love with a young Swiss woman who also loves him, but the woman is young and under the control of a guardian who refuses permission to the marriage unless the young man can double his income. The young man feels confident he can do so. The young woman goes along with the agreement feeling she owes it to her guardian who is apparently considering what is best for her. However, there is something strange about this guardian. The young man is unable to put his finger on the problem. The third plot is that just at this moment, when the young man needs all the money he can get to double his income, a huge amount of money is stolen from the firm. Who took the money and how was it done. The guardian is acting strangely. Is he involved? Readers will enjoy this tale and those who are familiar with the style of the two great writers will, besides enjoying the drama and the manner in which it is presented, find it interesting to see how the two styles intertwine.

My best advice: get it!!!! and read it!!!! and PLEASE, PROVE ME WRONG!!.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. two great writers, one great story By Margaret F. Blackwell Written in collaboration with Wilkie Colllins, this book is representative of the best efforts of both Dickens and Collins. It made me want to revisit the works of both writers. This is a great story, full of twists and turns. I loved it!

Most of the book reads like a travel journal. «he saw this here and saw that there». that works very well for me because i know the character of Mr. Glasier. He does a wonderful job narrating our time travel back to the 1890's. with himself less the center of attension that he is in his other books. It is a good read.

Hillman hit me hard when he said that the best time to write a book is By Samantha Williams Author Rob Hillman hit me hard when he said that the best time to write a book is, "NOW!"This book's shoutout is: There's a universe of opportunity for aspiring self-published authors. All it takes is guts. The rest will follow. As the saying goes, "No guts, No glory". Rob Hillman changed that to "Got guts? Get glory."He chose the right phrases like "People need to know what you know", "Leave your footprints", "Write for charity", "Even a crappy book is good ". These tug the heart and make one to just do it.Take my case. For three years, I've been contemplating on writing MY book. The only thing I've come close to is the idea of what book it should be and the content outline. Mostly, it's me and myself I'm battling with. Fear, procrastination, busy-ness, dead energy. After perusing this book, nothing can stop me now. I'll make sure to get his other book, too. More to come, Rob!

It is a strange thing that I, an old Boer vrouw, should even think of beginning to write a book when there are such numbers already in the world, most of them worthless, and many of the rest a scandal and offence in the face of the Lord. Notably is this so in the case of those called novels, which are stiff as mealie-pap with lies that fill the heads of silly girls with vain imaginings, causing them to neglect their household duties and to look out of the corners of their eyes at young men of whom their elders do not approve.

Well, it wasn't really about the trek -- it was about an impossibly wonderful and perfect girl and her even more impossibly wonderful and perfect, and abnormally devoted, black servant/"witch doctress." One doesn't read this sort of book looking for literature, but the yarn was well-knit, if it is possible to say that, and I kept turning the pages. There is some interesting information about the Afrikaner lifestyle in the 19th century, and the first person narrative voice is essentially successful, especially in the beginning. But, come on -- when was the last time you saw a man "wringing his hands"?If you know what you are getting into -- basically a Classics Illustrated comic book, rife with political incorrectness -- you'll find this an amusing way to pass an hour in the doctor's office, for example. If you expect something that toes the line of contemporary thinking, you will be horrified. Caveat reader.

A lovely story - romantic and exciting By Ellen Grady Rider Haggard was an immensely popular writer, and every new novel of his was eagerly awaited, and then devoured by his fans. It is worth the trouble to go beyond King Solomon's Mines, his best-known work, there are many more exciting stories to discover! Swallow is a totally believable character, and so is her tough little friend, a kind of witch-doctor princess. Their tale is narrated by Swallow's mother. What a story! You won't be able to put your Kindle down.

I never studied the boor wars but this made me want to go read more about it. Unsettling how the people never seemed to have a solid home between the Brits and the Kaffirs and the Zulus.

Amy Steedman beautifully brings the lives of the saints to life through story in a way that makes them unforgettable. I loved this book so much that after reading the Kindle version I bought a hard copy as well.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. My favorite Saints book By Sparrow This book is beautifully written which makes it an enjoyable read for any age. I don't mind re-reading them over and over to my children. Some of the Saints I had never heard of before but I surely won't forget them.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Entertaining By zac I liked the collection of many stories that even a child can read to themselves. I would recommend this to children. I chose three stars because it was just an entertaining read, but not life changing.

"Relive the classic TV Western Show with The Virginian, Trampas and all your old favorites with this new special edition release of the “The Virginian” by Owen Wister."

First published in 1902, the Classic Western Library Edition includes: - Foreword - The Success of "The Virginian" and Owen Wister - Illustrations

THE VIRGINIAN

If it's not true, don't say it If it's not yours, don't take it If it's not right, don't do it – The Cowboy Way The adventure begins with an unnamed narrator's arrival in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, from back East and his encounter with an impressively tall and handsome stranger. The stranger proves adept at roping horses, as well as facing down a gambler, Trampas, with a pistol and a gently threatening, "When you call me that, smile!" This stranger, known only as the Virginian, turns out to be the narrator's guide to Judge Henry's ranch in Sunk Creek, Wyoming. As the two travel the 263 miles to the ranch, the narrator (nicknamed the "Tenderfoot") and the Virginian begin to come to know one another, the Tenderfoot slowly begins to understand the nature of life in the West, which is very different from what he expected. This meeting is the beginning of what becomes a deep, lifelong friendship and the starting point of the narrator's recounting of key episodes in the life of the Virginian. From that point onward, the story revolves around the Virginian and the life he lives. As well as describing the Virginian's conflict with his enemy, Trampas, and his romance with the pretty schoolteacher, Molly Stark Wood, Wister weaves a tale of action, violence, hate, revenge, love and friendship. In one scene, the Virginian is forced to participate in the hanging of an admitted cattle thief, who had been his close friend. The hanging is represented as a necessary response to the government's corruption and lack of action, but the Virginian feels it to be a horrible duty. He is especially stricken by the bravery with which the thief faces his fate, and the heavy burden that the act places on his heart forms the emotional core of the story. A fatal shootout resolves the ongoing conflict with Trampas, after five years of hate. Will the Virginian find true happiness with Molly or will old memories and faces from past finally kill him? Get ready for the Return of the Virginian.

The Virginian (Annotated) (Classic Western Library Book 42), by Owen Wister

About the Author Owen Wister (July 14, 1860 – July 21, 1938) was an American writer and "father" of western fiction. Wister began his literary work in 1891. He had spent several summers out in the American West, making his first trip to Wyoming in 1885. Like his friend Teddy Roosevelt, Wister was fascinated with the culture, lore and terrain of the region. On an 1893 visit to Yellowstone, Wister met the western artist Frederic Remington who remained a lifelong friend. When he started writing, he naturally inclined towards fiction set on the western frontier. Wister's most famous work remains the 1902 novel The Virginian, the loosely constructed story of a cowboy who is a natural aristocrat, set against a highly mythologized version of the Johnson County War and taking the side of the large land owners. This is widely regarded as being the first cowboy novel and was reprinted fourteen times in eight months. The book was written in the library of The Philadelphia Club, where Wister was a member, and is dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt.

“I say, didn’t you hear a cry?” exclaimed Charley Fielding, starting up from the camp fire at which we were seated discussing our evening meal of venison, the result of our day’s hunting. He leaned forward in the attitude of listening. “I’m sure I heard it! There it is again, but whether uttered by Redskin or four-footed beast is more than I can say.”

American frontier tales from a Victorian storyteller By Tim These are easy reading stories of trappers, settlers, indians and adventurers written when this was actually happening. William Kingston absorbed an enormous amount of information about his subjects and you feel you really know the settings while the players battle their way through to the Victorian Age's predictable happy ending.
