A limited, superficial guide to selling books on Amazon By Biblio-Nut This 14 page ebook is too superficial to qualify as a primer for selling books on Amazon, or anywhere else. The author offers a few facts about Amazon seller charges and programs, such as FBA (Fulfilled By Amazon), all of which, and a great deal more, can be found on the Amazon site. Anyone who has ever bought a book or two on Amazon will already know about the wide variety of offerings for a particular used title in terms of prices and condition. The paragraphs on packaging and shipping options merely repeats what most potential sellers probably already know. The biggest shortcoming of this ebook is that it gives the optimistic impression that all you need do is scour around the used book shelves of the Salvation Army or Goodwill and you will find many books that you can sell at a good profit. Many of these charity stores are already Amazon sellers, cherry picking better items to sell on Amazon. In urban areas a potential Amazon seller will find stiff competition from other sellers seeking the same better books you are. Your competition is likely equipped with sophisticated technology, such as bar code scanners for reading ISBN number, that are tied into expensive book pricing databases on PDA's. At the very least you need a smart phone to check on a book's value on Amazon in terms of quantity and price. Otherwise, that lovely expensive looking coffee table book you just found may be competing with 50 other copies on Amazon, starting at $1.00. Unfortunately, this ebook doesn't touch on the technology required these days for successful book buying and selling, or how to acquire it. The unsophisticated and ill-prepared book seller may end up with thousands of books with little value on Amazon that your survivors will donate back to that charity shop or local library book sale, where you originally bought them.

Dark curls and an unforgettably sweet laugh . . . In Book I of the series, Her Unforgettable Laugh, a trip to Hertfordshire brought Fitzwilliam Darcy face-to-face with the woman who had haunted his dreams for five years. Their chance meeting led to a courtship, in spite of those who wished to separate them. Now Elizabeth Bennet is traveling to London where she will be introduced to Darcy’s family and the ton. How will Elizabeth be received? Will their love flourish and grow or will new trials overwhelm them?

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing By Austen Fan This book(the 2nd in a series) was expensive but I gave it a chance. To be honest I was disappointed. As another reviewer mentioned there was little laughter, a lot of angst and Elizabeth was battered and bruised throughout that it's a wonder she survived to be in the next book. The writing was weak and the characters weaker and the author definitely needs to use a thesaurus to find another word for "rushed" , this word was used so much that I amused myself in counting how many times (let's just say, a lot!!). Overall Elizabeth was too saintly to be believable given all the trials she was put through, Darcy was a shadow of the original and all of the other characters didn't add much to the story, as I captioned my review, in one word, disappointing.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Repetitive Trials, Not Much Laughter By Read Right This is the second volume of the story. It is an ok read. I have read much worse. I thought the romance was too sappy and written for teenagers, not adults. The device for tension in the story was recycled over and over. Elizabeth is so humble she tells Darcy that he should break off their relationship if she causes a break with his family. Darcy then feels guilty that he can't protect Elizabeth repeatedly. I like a wonderful Elizabeth, but this Elizabeth is over the top wonderful and is praised for her wit, intelligence, compassion, etc by everyone but the villains. Wickham is crazy and tries to kill or hurt Darcy and Elizabeth over and over. Miss Bingley is borderline crazy and the author added an lady from the Ton who is another Miss Bingley. The author does develop some dialog that shows Elizabeth's wittiness, but much of her wittiness is other characters telling her how witty she is.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Don't waste your money, you'll be bored stiff. By TarHeelPC I was astonished at the price and should have heeded my first inclination not to purchase this novel. This writer's style reminds me of an amateur actor reciting line after line after page after boring page in monotone voice while the audience all sleeps. Jane Austin's Elizabeth was human, this Elizabeth Bennet was a Saint placed on earth and totally unbelievable. After reading only a couple of chapter, my Kindle was so sticky and dripping syrup, I could no longer even read.

When all that matters shall be written down And the long record of our years is told, Where sham, like flesh, must perish and grow cold; When the tomb closes on our fair renown And priest and layman, sage and motleyed clown Must quit the places which they dearly hold, What to our credit shall we find enscrolled? And what shall be the jewels of our crown? I fancy we shall hear to our surprise Some little deeds of kindness, long forgot, Telling our glory, and the brave and wise Deeds which we boasted often, mentioned not. God gave us life not just to buy and sell, And all that matters is to live it well.

An enhanced audiobook with complete music score and extensive sound effects to add to your listening experience.

The interior was dark and neither of us searched for a lamp or switch. There came a ticking of some clock or another. And the sound of a dripping faucet somewhere in the house was like a hammer to an anvil. Our breaths were loud, but my heart sounded louder to me. Interestingly enough, Holmes moved as though he'd been through here before. I had no time to ponder this, as somewhere behind us I heard a door shut and then the click of a lock.

A Roger Rittner Production. Pulp Radio - Audio Dramas. Announced by Dave Mallow.

The author of this short story has remained true to the original literary Holmes and style of writing, while breathing fresh life into the character with new adventures. A stolen identity and a search for a golden apple.

A few decades have passed since I’ve read the last time a few Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan. Interestingly, reading Pennie Mae Cartawick’s versions of the great detective’s mysteries, immediately created in my mind an association with what I had read a long time ago. Her stories are so very much what Sherlock Holmes stories are all about: brilliant detective work, unpredictable twists and many suspicious characters. The stories are brilliantly written. It shows that Pennie Mae Cartawick is an experienced writer. I look forward to reading other books written by her, including her nonfiction books. As far as this story is concerned, I am happy to recommend it. Five stars from me.

Beautiful Language By Lelia Eye If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan, you'll find what you want here--Sherlock Holmes, Watson, and a mystery that is skillfully unraveled. The process of Sherlock Holmes' reasoning skills is as awe-inspiring as it should be. He presents his evidence and observations, and you are left thinking, as the reader, "Wow, I wish I could think like that!"But my favorite part of this short story is the language. There were several places where I thought, "Man, I love how that was written." Just the smallest things are enough to make me marvel. The first sentence starts it off perfectly: "Today seems to me particularly vile in nature with skies as grey, grungy and tattered as the laundry around the lower flats." Later, there are other gems of sentences such as this one: "The time between the discharge of her duty and her disappearance was short enough to pass as magic." Another great line: "The streets were already beginning to buzz with life even as last night’s dew arose in sheets of steam."This story really got me to thinking more about language. It's not enough to simply cut to the action as soon as you can--you should breathe life into your stories by respecting the beauty that language can reveal. I adored all the sentences like these which were to be found in the work--wonderfully crafted, yet not extraneous to the work as they very well could have been.As you read this work, pay attention to the beauty of the language. We do not often receive as many gems in a work as this short story offers.

Outstanding, and Widely Applicable - By Loyd Eskildson Taiichi Ohno is the father of the famed Toyota Production System (aka TPS, Lean Production) that has revolutionized manufacturing around the world, and to a lesser extent even impacted the production of services. Mr. Ohno began his career with Toyota in 1932, after first serving in the Toyoda family's original Toyoda Spinning. The goal of TPS is simply the elimination of all waste. Examples of waste include excess inventory, waiting, transportation, rework, inspection, and defects. These are to be eliminated through just-in-time inventories, continuous improvement, fast-changeovers (eg. 'one-touch'), downstream pull, immediately stopping production when a problem is detected, and 'hands-on' managers and careful process analysis.Among the early details reported by the author, he pointed out that it took 30 years to fully implement a 'pull' inventory system. Management had to be constantly involved, accepting no excuses or half-completion, and certain to have built in mechanisms to prevent backsliding to easier prior methods. 'Outsourcing problems,' per Mr. Ohno, was viewed as evading underlying issues, and not acceptable.Another example of a useful point: Most any manager can improve productivity when volumes increase, but few take advantage of slower volumes to also improve productivity. How is that accomplished? By using freed-up resources to discuss and try possible improvements (eg. modifying equipment to automatically feed and eject, stop when a problem occurs) cross-training so a worker can help out the worker at the next station if he/she gets behind, experimenting with more insourcing (at least would get a better idea on true costs).

Ohno By Robert Morris Takehico Harada is the author of this comprehensive, indeed definitive introduction to the Toyota Production System (TPS) and to the man who invented it, Taiichi Ohno (1912-1990). The book was translated by Brad Schmidt. Briefly, drawing on his experience of introducing a flow production method using a chain conveyor into the assembly line of a textile plant (completed in 1927) with a monthly production capacity of 300 units, Kiichiro Toyoda (1894-1952) introduced this same method into the body production line at Toyota Motor Co., Ltd.'s Koromo Plant (present day Honsha Plant), completed in 1938.by ensuring thorough implementation of jidoka and the Just-in-Time method, Eiji Toyoda (1913-) increased workers' productivity by adding value and realized the Toyota Production System, which enabled Toyota to compete head-on with companies in Europe and the U.S. With strong backing from Eiji Toyoda, Taiichi Ohno helped establish the Toyota Production System, and built the foundation for the Toyota spirit of "making things" by, for example, creating the basic framework for the Just-in-Time method.Harada explains that good kaizen [continuous improvement] "creates an environment in which work is meaningful. To sustain and manage a work environment like this, it is crucial to train people in the management of a Lean organization. Please use this book to that end, and make it your mission to create a workplace where smiles are everywhere and kaizen is happening all the time." He worked for more than 40 years trying to create "that wonderful workplace" at Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyota Motors' Taiwan plant. He is former president. These are among the several dozen passages of greatest interest and value to me, also listed to suggest the scope of Harada's coverage:o Western vs. Japanese culture (Pages x-xi and 121-127)o Flow (1-2, 14-15, 17-20, 32-35, and 101-105)o TPS: Deployment (4-5, 65-67, and 137-139)o Productivity (24-29)o Skilled workers (29-35 and 89-97)o Training (30-35, 52-55, 65-66, and 1q39-149)o Management (39-41, 65-79, and 81-118)o Kanbans (60-63)o TPS and Corporate Culture (66-67, 123-127, and 147-149)o TPS: Roles and responsibilities of management (70--79, 81-118, and 129-132)o TPS: Authority and empowerment (90-97)o Defects (94-96 and 128-131)o Ship set production (114-118)o Resistance to change (123-127 and 145-149)o Abnormality management (127-129)o TPS: Achieving adoption (132-134)Here are the 15 ”sayings” of Taiichi Ohno that Harada wrote down, each of which he discusses.1. "No One Really Understood What I was Saying, So I had to Go to the Gemba ("the real place") and Give Detailed Instructions" (7-11)2. "Kaizen Equals Getting Closer to the Final Process" (11-17)3. "You Need by the [Assembly] Line Only the Parts for the Car You Are Assembling Now" (17-20)4. "Building in Batches Stunts the Growth of Your Operations (Don't Combine Kanbans [improvement systems] and Build a Group of Them" (20-24)5. "Nine Out of Ten, One Out of Ten" (24-29)6. "The Foreman or Leader Is the One Who 'Breaks' the Standard (When You Make an Improvement and You Can Take Out One Person, Give Up Your Best Person" (29-32)7. "Multitasking Means Learning the Next Process -- Keep It Flowing Until You Reach the Last Process" (32-35)8. "What's That Red Circle on the Top Right of the Graph?" (35-39)9. "Are You as the Manager Having Them Do It, or Are They Just Doing It Their Way? Which Is It, Man?"(39-41)10. "Standard Work for the Andon [indicator of a problem] Is, 'Go There When It Flashes'" (42-45)11. "Standard Work Is the Foundation of Kanban" (45-49)12. "When the Worker Pushes the Start Button, He Has Stopped Moving. Can't You Guys Figure Out a Way to Push Star While Still Moving?" (45-52)13. "You Bought an Expensive Machine, and Now You Want an Expensive Foreman or Engineer to Run It? Are You Mad?" (52-55)14. "Engineers in Production Become the Horizontal Threads in the Cloth" (55-60)15. The Lowest Kanban Quantity Should Be Five" (60-63)If you work your way through each of these in a patient and attentive manner, I think you will be amazed by the scope and depth of new understanding that will occur. Albert Einstein once stressed the importance of making everything as simple as possible...but no simpler. That in essence is Lean Thinking, the philosophical foundation of the Toyota Production System.Vince Lombardi once held up a piece of chalk during a Green Bay Packers team meeting and said, “I can beat any offense or defense with this.” Presumably Taiichi Ohno and Takehiko Harada agree with me that the same can be said of lists such as this one. Be they sayings, rules or guidelines, however sensible they may be, they are essentially worthless unless and until they become articles of faith, not for a production process but rather for a way of life.

Absolutely a MUST READ for anyone serious about lean, and serious at measuring where they are in understanding lean thinking By Michael Balle For any one at all serious about lean thinking, this is an absolute must read - no excuses! Most books describe the "what" of lean, the tools, the cases, the instances. A few explain the "how" the principles and the guidance on how to apply these in various conditions. But al too often the original intent is lost - the "why". Takehiko Harada's great book brings us back to the deep why - why did Taiichi Ohno look so differently at work, and all the efforts his teams made to understand his insights and go beyond. We need more books like this one, and we can start by reading this one, over and over again.

Dominic Iglesias stood watching while the lingering June twilight darkened into night. He was tired in body, but his mind was eminently, consciously awake, to the point of restlessness, and this was unusual with him. He had raised the lower sash of each of the three tall, narrow windows to its extreme height, since the first-floor sitting-room, though of fair proportions, appeared close. His thought refused the limits of it, and ranged outward over the expanse of Trimmer's Green, the roadway and houses bordering it, to the far northwest, that region of hurried storm, of fierce, equinoctial passion and conflict, now paved with plaques of flat, dingy, violet cloud opening on smoky rose-red wastes of London sunset. All day thunder had threatened, but had not broken. And, even yet, the face of heaven seemed less peaceful than remonstrant, a sullenness holding it as of troops in retreat denied satisfaction of imminent battle.

The January afternoon was passing into night, the air was cold and still, so still that not a single twig of the naked beech-trees stirred; on the grass of the meadows lay a thin white rime, half frost, half snow; the firs stood out blackly against a steel-hued sky, and over the tallest of them hung a single star. Past these bordering firs there ran a road, on which, in this evening of the opening of our story, a young man stood irresolute, glancing now to the right and now to the left.

RIDER HAGGARD By s.ferber Sir Henry Rider Haggard, the so-called "Father of the Lost Race Novel," didn't write such stories featuring only Allan Quatermain and Ayesha, She Who Must Be Obeyed. For example, his 17th novel, "The People of the Mist" (1894), is a smashing, wonderfully exciting, stand-alone lost-race tale featuring all-new characters. But the first third of the novel is hardly a lost-race story at all, but rather one of hard-bitten African adventure. In it, we meet Leonard Outram, a penniless British adventurer who is seeking wealth in the wilds of the "Dark Continent" after losing his family lands and estates (through no fault of his own, it should be added). He becomes involved in the rescue of a young Portuguese woman from the largest slaving camp in Africa, and this thrilling and quite suspenseful section of the book offers more entertainment value than most entire novels. But it is only after Leonard and Otter (his four-foot-tall Zulu sidekick) rescue Juanna Rodd that the book really takes off, and the hunt for the People of the Mist, and their legendary jewel horde, begins. Once the lost race has been discovered, Leonard & Co. become embroiled in a plot involving the impersonation of gods and priest vs. king politics, and Haggard throws in some violent sacrifices, a giant crocodile god, a "toboggan" escape along a precipitous glacier, some romances and a good deal of humor (thanks to that wonderful Otter character) to keep the reader consistently amused. The theology of this lost race is nicely detailed and, as is fortunately common in a Haggard tale, the author offers many commentaries on the side regarding his philosophies of life. For those readers who have enjoyed other tales by Sir Henry (I've read 30 or so at this point; the man CAN prove addictive!), "The People of the Mist" will resonate all over the place, bringing to mind both earlier and later Haggard works. For example, the character of Soa (Juanna's insanely jealous nursemaid) is similar to Hendrika the Baboon Woman in "Allan's Wife" (1889). Otter himself is a precursor of Quatermain's Hottentot sidekick Hans, especially when he attempts to fight the giant crocodile god, much as Hans would later fight the monstrous snake god in "The Ivory Child" (1916). (These giant animal gods, it should be noted, are likely inspirations for all those similar monstrosities in the tales of Robert E. Howard, just as Hendrika was a likely inspiration for Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan.) But there is no way in the world that a reader--even one familiar with the author--will guess how things turn out for our intrepid explorers, in this continuously engrossing tale. That said, it should be noted that Haggard is guilty of a few slips in the course of the book. A huge gem of the crocodile god is carved from a sapphire; several hundred pages later, it has become a ruby. The motto of Leonard's family is said to be "For Heart, Home and Honour"; later on, that motto is said to be "For Home, Honour and Heart." But these are minor matters that only the sharpest-eyed readers will notice (my personal curse, I suppose). The overwhelming majority of readers, I feel, will be so busy being thrilled and entertained that they will never notice these little goofs. The bottom line is that "The People of the Mist" is still another wonderful page-turner from H. Rider Haggard. Now, when is some respectful filmmaker going to spend $200 million to bring THIS ONE to the big screen?

Beautifully written, exciting, and moving By A Customer Sir Henry Rider Haggard wrote many great works - "She," "King Solomon's Mines," and this underappreciated treasure, a beautifully written, exciting, and moving tale of adventure, love, sacrifice and a lost civilization in Africa. My favorite character is the African "Otter" who is both funny and heroic, he seems foolish but actually he is far wiser than his white English employers. I first read and loved "People of the Mist" at the age of 15 when is was reprinted as part of that great Ballantine Adult Fantasy series by Lin Carter (which also introduced a new generation of readers to all time fantasy greats like Dunsany, Lovecraft, Cabell, and Clark Ashton Smith). I've read about ten times in the last quarter century and it is still an excellent, sweeping spectacle. Read it, buy it, reprint it. Haggard was the granddaddy of them all, before Burroughs, Mundy and Lamb, before Robert E. Howard, before Buchan and Wilbur Smith, there was Sir Harry.

97 of 106 people found the following review helpful. An absolute MUST READ By A Customer A beautiful masterpiece, truly Haggard at his best. It depicts an English youth, who lost his fortune and his fiancee's hand. Swearing with his brother to win back their home, he ends up in Africa, trying to make a fortune. It is only afterwards that he rescues a maid from a slave-dealer (for payment, of course!) falls in love with her, and ends up in a place no one has ever heard of. Narrow escape, love, intrigue, and more make this book great! It's worth every penny!

Dearest, by H. Beam Piper

About the Author H. Beam Piper was one of science fiction's most enigmatic writers. In 1946 Piper appeared seemingly from out of nowhere, already at the top of his form. He published a number of memorable short stories and successfully made the turn to major novelist. Even those who counted Piper among their friends learned very little about the man (or his previous life as a railroad yard bull in Altoona, Pennsylvania) before he committed suicide in November 1964.

By Timothy Marvin Coplin This is a bit out of my realm of satisfaction, but still a worthy read for its taking on the topic of age related senility and dementia. Colonial 'Slaughterhouse' Hapmton is the subject of a family's attempted commitment to the local asylum. However, little do they know that the good Colonials invisible friend is real, intervening in the realm of the living. When all is said and done, Slaughterhouse is able to reassert his dignity, take control of the situation at hand and stick it to those who have been a thorn in his side throughout the story.I give it 2 out of 5 stars on the following scale:+ poor read++ so-so read+++ good read++++ excellent read+++++ life changing read

Around The World In 80 Days, by Jules Verne

From School Library Journal Grade 6 Up?To most modern kids, classics may be great, worthy, even exciting stories, but they were written in and for their own times and the context can sometimes be obscure. Using the visually irresistible printing techniques popularized by the "Eyewitness" series, these two books, when prominently displayed, will probably attract more impulse readers than some of the dustier editions. But do they accomplish their stated aim? Direct textual illustration is plentiful, lively, and useful. The reproductions of prints, photographs, and maps that pepper each page and are intended to enhance readers' grasp of the times, however, are a mixed success. There is a sameness to them and an arbitrary feel to their use. Pirate buffs will find Treasure Island's variety of ship drawings, details of sailing minutiae, and photographs of pieces of eight or guns and swords quite satisfying. Verne's work is less enhanced by its graphics. This episodic travelogue would be best served by lots of clear maps with the route well marked. But the few maps shown are so small that the legends are unreadable and country and city names are blurred. Limitations aside, the initial appeal of this fresh approach may serve to attract some new readers to these enduring stories that have managed without any help for this long.?Sally Margolis, formerly at Deerfield Public Library, ILCopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Kirkus Reviews Around The World In Eighty Days ($23.99; $15.99 paper; May 1996; 296 pp.; 0- 670-86917-1; paper 0-670-86793-4): An entry in The Whole Story series, this is an annotated edition of the 1873 classic, printed on coated stock and enhanced by both atmospheric new paintings and hundreds of postage-stampsized 19th-century photos and prints. The explanatory captions (credited to Jean-Pierre Verdet only on the copyright page) accompanying the latter are largely superfluous, although they do add random snippets of historical background to the journey. It's the views of old ships and trains, of costumed natives, and distant ports of call--from Port Said to San Francisco--that evoke the tale's panorama of the exotic, just as the many lurid Verne trading cards and other spinoffs capture the plot's melodramatic highlights. A good way to put both book and story in context for young armchair travelers. (Fiction. 11-15) -- Copyright ©1996, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

Review Praise for Classic Starts™: “The books have won the praise of a number of educators. Peggy Charren, a visiting scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, an advocate for higher-quality children’s media, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, said she has read several {and states}’they’re terrific.’”—The Wall Street Journal. “Where abridgements are useful in introducing literature to grade-schoolers not equipped to handle the real thing, books in this series will fill the bill.”—Booklist.  “Large print, short chapters, and an abundance of white space provide an attractive, more-accessible option for readers who are not ready to handle the originals.”—School Library Journal  “Even those who dislike adaptations will find much to admire in this retelling…”—School Library Journal (for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) “This…retelling will be appreciated by readers not yet ready for the original work.”—School Library Journal (for Anne of Green Gables).

The story features the height of late 1800 steam technology and a couple of heros who want to circumnavigate the earth in 80 days to win a bet. The characters are surprisingly likable and the action is just GREAT. Put this at the top of the queue for great free reads and you will get a wonderful easy read and a brilliant view of the world.

McDonnell The story is about an eccentric Englishman named Phileas Fogg who makes a twenty thousand pound bet with five of his rich country club friends to travel around the world in eighty days with his trusty servant Passepartout a Frenchman. Along the way they have to overcome many obstacles. Fogg spends most of his fortune overcoming these obstacles and if they don't win the bet he will be ruined. There are some things however that even money can't overcome and several times Fogg is faced with a moral decision that if he pursues the right thing to do will significantly set him back on time.Their travels take them through England, Paris, the Suez Canal, Egypt, India, Hong Kong, Japan, America, and Ireland. In India they rescue a princess who stays on with them throughout the rest of their journey and a love interest grows between her and Fogg. There is also another subplot involving a bank robbery in England where 55 thousand pounds have been stolen, and Fogg is considered to be the main suspect. A detective Fix is assigned to follow Fogg and to arrest him once he sets foot on English territory. This book seems to be split into two parts. During the first part of the book when things are going smoothly the servant Passepartout seems to be the main character. At each port Fogg stays in his cabin and just focuses on the next leg of the trip while Passepartout ventures out and gives you a description of the land. It would seem a shame to travel all around the world and not pause to take in any of the sights as Fogg does. I found most of these early chapters pretty mundane and uneventful. The subplot with Fix at times becomes annoying, and it isn't until they are all working towards the same goal, that this line of the story improves. I also found the exchange rate between dollars and pounds confusing at times. The pound must have been about four or five times greater than the dollar at the time this story was written. Fogg leaves England with around twenty thousand pounds and spends it seems over a hundred thousand dollars on the trip.Later on as the story progresses and things start to go wrong the focus changes over to Fogg. Passepartout still does some heroic things, but Fogg takes charge and shows some redeeming qualities. The pace of the story quickens and becomes more enjoyable with a few skirmishes taking place in India and America. Fogg seems a different person upon returning to England, and his life is changed forever. My wife has a framed poster that hangs on one of our walls with a collage of all of the movies that have won the best picture of the year award. "Around The World In Eighty Days" won the award in 1956, and the picture is represented in the collage with the main character Phileas Fogg and his trusty servant Passepartout taking a balloon flight. Based on this picture for years I always assumed the book was about a trip in a balloon around the world. I was surprised then to find out once I finally got a chance to read the actual book that they travel by boat, train, car, sled, and even elephant, but that they never travel by balloon. It turns out that the most memorable scene from the movie was made up by the director and added on to the story. The director seemed to have come to same conclusion that I did, that the written story itself was very good, but I was expecting something a little more. The book was written in 1873. Jules Verne the author is a Frenchman. In this day and age it was pleasing to see both England and America looked upon in such a favorable light. Englishmen were portrayed as noble and Americans were portrayed as wild and adventurous.

This book is about a man named Mr. Phileas Fogg, and his faithful servant, Passepartout, that wager a bet that They can travel the whole world in eighty days stopping at Suez via Mont Cenis and Brindisi, then to Bombay, then Calcutta, Hong Kong, Japan (Yokohama), San Francisco, New York, back to London, all within eighty days, and by steamboats, and trains. However, a nosy detective, Detective Fix, tracks them down, and tries to arrest Mr. Fogg because he believes that Fogg stole fifty-five thousand pounds. As one may guess, this greatly detains Mr. Fogg, and it seems like he may not make the trip around the world after all. However, the Fix never seems to catch up with Fogg, and Fogg triumphs over most of the obstacles that come his way, like missing boats, missing trains, missing people, and Fogg even meets and rescues a beautiful Indian Princess called Aouda. However, Fix finally catches up to the detective, and everything seems lost for Fogg until Fix discovers that Fogg was not the robber, and Fogg is released. Even so, Fogg is one day late, and in doing so, misses the train that would have taken him to London precisely to win the bet. He ordered a special train, but even in doing so, still misses the bet...or so he thinks. The ending of the book is a very unexpected one. Read this book and find out!
