Usually that'd be enough to appease folks, but I'm seeing a lot of complaints about Kindle's poetry layout.I've read a good chunk of this item, and it looks like Frost's original structure is preserved.Note: I've found that I enjoy reading poetry on my Kindle in landscape orientation...that way the pesky word wrap doesn't present a big distraction.

His words are simple, true, thought provoking, heart-tugging and wistful, sad, happy, joyous and lasting. "Two roads diverged" had not crossed my mind in years when I came upon a reference to it in a novel. I looked it up on Internet and read it in full. Three hours later, i read it again. 24 hours later, I ordered "Mountain Interval". So many of the poems I had forgotten about. This is one book that I am keeping close. I read from it everyday even if just for 10 minutes. I recommend it to anyone who loves all the things it brings to mind: good writing, beautiful scenery, happy times, and beautiful memories and poems that sometimes tell a tale.

23 of 25 people found the following review helpful. A masterpiece By HORAK Edmund Narraway, an engraver, is the narrator in this stunning novel by Iris Murdoch. One day he returns to his family house in northern England for the funeral of his recently deceased mother Lydia. Otto, Edmund's brother, a stone mason, still lives in the house with his wife Isabel and daughter Flora, along with Maria Magistrelli - Maggie - the nurse whom both Otto and Edmund consider as their second "mother". She is the Italian girl who brought up the two boys since neither their father John - a "nonentity" - nor Lydia - an intensely mean woman - took any part in their upbringing.Their childhood passed in an alternate frenzy of jealousy and of suffocation from their mother and Edmund feels that, although he didn't return to the house for many years, he never escaped from Lydia, that she got inside him, into the depth of his being and that there was no abyss and no darkness where she was not. And soon Edmund discovers that the remaining relatives still living in the old house are entangled in a web of deceit and false pretence. Flora is pregnant by David Levkin, Otto's apprentice, who is now having an affair with Isabel whereas Elsa, David's sister, is Otto's lover. Edmund quickly realises that his brother Otto, a violently tempered man, has become an alcoholic and he wonders whether he isn't himself rapidly becoming part of "the machine". Soon he feels agitated, exasperated and confused. He finds the whole situation "too scandalous, too outrageous". Edmund is constantly on the brink of leaving, not wanting "to be inside such a circle of hell". But due to his sympathy or weakness, he feels that his presence is needed by both his sister and his niece. But little does he know about the outcome of his stay at the old family house...Mrs Murdoch has been compared to Tolstoy and Dostoyevski for her literary skills and certainly "The Italian Girl" proves her capacity to show that being in love provides joy but can turn otherwise decent individuals into monsters of cruelty and blindness.

Her books are almost uniformly well written and compelling. This is no exception.The Italian Girl tells the story of an unhappy family on the eve of the death of the family matriarch. The characters include a spartan typesetter, two witchy Russian siblings, a disappointed housewife, and (of course) the Italian Girl.I don't find this novel to be one of her strongest (not compared to books like The Bell or The Sandcastle) but then again, I can't imagine a book of hers that isn't worth reading.

She liked it but felt it was quite a bit harder than the others I bought for her.Some of the logic puzzles were a little obscure even for me. After I looked at it a little I could see why she told me it was enjoyable to do but not as much fun as the word roundup ones.She rated it good 7.5 to 8.0 out of ten recommended but it does require more thought than the word roundup one.

Interesting treatise on the power of Love vs Violence By Sky A short and fascinating treatise on love as the solution to all hatred, and the answer to all violence.The subtitle of this work is: The Subjection of India - Its Cause and Cure, and consists of a letter to the editor of Free Hindustan. It was given to Gandhi, who was inspired to translate it from Russian, publish it in an Indian newspaper, and even write an introduction for it in book form.The book manages to examine the political situation of the time (not so different from some parts of the world now) linking the basic tenet of many religions, including Taoism, Judaism, Mohammedanism and Christianity among others, to the philosophies of Ancient Greece and Rome.Tolstoy saw the connecting thread as love.Nicely written and inspiring. Also an interesting glimpse into the mind and motivation of a great writer... and I particularly enjoyed the poetic quotations from Krishna.A quick read which gave me a much food for thought, especially how to apply it to everyday life.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Must Read By Reviewing Shelf In my search for ‘Eleven stories by Leo Tolstoy’, I stumbled upon this treasure. The title intrigued me. I am a Hindu after all. Seeing a personal letter (well, almost) from no less than Leo Tolstoy will get anyone’s heart beating faster and me being an ardent fan, ‘ahh’ is the word. I might have had too much on my to-do list but then this short little letter somehow made some time for itself to be read and I have no idea how everything else shifted to the back burner. ;)An introduction by Mahatma Gandhi gives way to the book. On a personal note, I am not a big fan of his actions. His beliefs, possibly, but some of his actions just didn’t go down well with me and few of his words in the letter found their way to despise me. But I carried on.And then came Krishna and Tolstoy, two of my very favorite people or perhaps a semi-God and an author but well who goes by the decree. I love them both! And I completely agree with their beliefs. The quotes by Krishna reminded me why He was the one who had inspired my pen name while Tolstoy’s writing reminded me why Anna Karenina is my all time favorite book and he my all time favorite author.His words rang true to me and I found myself nodding in agreement. His letter written in 1908 still holds true to this day. But it now assimilates the whole world and is not limited to a Hindu or an Indian. It might well include Israel and Russia and Ukraine and the entire world population. ‘Love’ is the word. Violence and war should give way to love because that’s what is natural and pervasive.This little letter might hurt a few sentiments because at a point, it even questions one’s beliefs in Gods and religion but all for one’s belief in an even higher aim of life – love. I somehow agree with all that Tolstoy has to say because God is a belief but love is natural. God one learns about but love is an instinct, something we are born with.I wish Tolstoy was alive. He seems like my dream man. ;) On a serious note, I realised why I had fallen in love with him years ago when I read Anna Karenina. And it’s time I pick up more of him. I’m craving now.

By Tee 'n' the Wildlife Until I read the sweet preface to Adam Ellis' wonderful, amusing, detailed little book I didn't know the term "Disney Eyes." But now I do~~and I've discovered that I have a kitty with those eyes~~complete with a tiny matching chin! Aside from that wonderful discovery, the other wonderful discoveries are the many extra extra specially designed and most carefully constructed tiny hats in the most fabulous colors and patterns! Talk about charming and painstaking work! He's an artist and designer after my own heart! (I have included a photo of my little Bridget taken over the summer, who at eight months old still comes complete with her "Disney Eyes," tiny little chin, and great big attitude!

Maxwell is such a good model and I follow that Instagram account, the fact that someone would rate it any lower than 5 stars because they "misread" the description is no excuse to review their idiocy. California gold rush era - exciting tale By Janice aboard Seaweed Joe's Luck follows the story of Joe, a boy of 15 who is working for an older gent with a rude son. The deal is, he works and in exchange is provided food, shelter and clothing. The clothing however is awful. Joe looks like a ragged tramp. The son of his boss is a real piece of work as we used to say. He's mean and treats Joe like a servant.Then Joe inherits $56. Wow! With that he quits the farm and heads to the city. His intention is to buy a ticket aboard a sailing ship and go to California. Via ship, taking months is the least expensive way to go west and Joe wants to dig for gold.Spoilers:He's robbed of his $50 by an unscrupulous cad. Instead of riding in steerage (that actually costs $100) Joe ends up sharing a small cabin with a wealthy young man on his way to California. They get along grand and Joe and the new friend enjoy each other's company.Once in California Joe's luck becomes mostly good luck. He saves a gent from injury and is set up in a restaurant for the deed. From there, Joe's kindness and generosity enable multiple good things to happen -- not just to Joe, but to new characters introduced.The book shows that by working (not gambling) you can succeed. Joe does, and even manages to get out to the mines.I enjoyed the book and especially the ending.

A Classic Work by Plato By Joseph Hill Crito was an elderly friend of Socrates who tried to persuade Socrates to escape from the prison where he was to be executed for the crime of "corrupting the youth" of Athens. This ancient story is presented by Plato in dialogue format, which makes it easy to follow (it is an English translation of the original Greek text, which I taught my students to read during my faculty years at Geneva College). All truly educated people should be acquainted with this classic story of Socrates' fidelity to his core principles. I highly recommend it.

Packed full of great advice By Sam Elliot This book has a huge amount of real life information that will quickly and decisively teach you the key skills needed to be a great leader. First the book goes through showing you what is essential for you yourself, then it goes into how to know others, effectively communicate, team building, management, setting goals, decision making, how to deal with time and stress and so much more than I can possible write in this review. The only thing I wish is that this was in paperback so I could buy a paperback copy that I can reference back to and write all over to notate for myself. Great stuff and my props to the author Nel Iheon. I will use this content to improve my ability to effectively lead and mange.
